It is an oversize bound book and every page number covers both
open pages.
So there are four overlapping exposures for each page.
Also the direction of N or North may change from page to page.
It's purpose is NOT geography but fire risk: watchman present,
ceiling height, closest fire hydrant, distance from engine house. It may
identify the name of the church, school, factory or may not.
Therefore, the same page may contain excerpts of very distant
areas and these excerpts may not all be in the same direction so I have cut some
of these out and re-oriented them so north is up. But some of these excerpts are
odd-shaped and may be awkward to cut and/or orient.
D means dwelling, F means flat (apartment), S means store, Vnr
means veneer,
Before 1912:
The streets west of the river may be called west something while
streets east of the river may be called east something.
On the west side of the river, streets are called north or south
from the dividing line of Bridge Street.
On the east side fo the river, streets are called north or south
from the dividing line of Fulton Street.
